In the very heart of Mazurian forests you can find the ruins of Adolf Hilter's war headquarters. It?s a hidden town - 200 buildings: shelters, barracks, 2 airports, a power station, a railway station, air-conditioners, water supplies, heat-generating plants and two tele-printers. In 1944 more than 2000 people lived here. On July 20, 1944 captain Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg failed to attempt on Adolf Hitler life here. |

The Modlin Fortress is a 200 years old fortification phenomenon, which can be compared in the European scope only with the Fortress of Verdun. The Modlin Fortress is the biggest and most important monument of military engineering and fortification architecture in Poland. It is also the longest building in Europe measuring almost 2,5 km. |

The large painting (15x114m) 'transfers' the viewer into a different time, a reality of its own, by artfully combining painterly devices (special kind of perspective) and technical effects (lighting, artificial terrain, dark and usually tortuous passage to the viewing platform). |

At the moment the Nazis invasive in Poland, massive arrests of Poles started in the Free City of Gdansk (Danzig). On the first day of the war approx. 1500 people were arrested. The victims were mainly Poles active in social and economical life, activists and members of Polish organizations. Among the arrested Poles a group of 150 persons was selected and, as early as on the 2nd September 1939, they were transported to Stutthof. In this moment the tragic story of this camp, a story that lasted for many years, began. In June 1944 it became a part of the project "the final solution of the Jewish problem" - "Endloesung". In this way it became a camp for mass- extermination. |
